During summer 2018 Rae Manacsa and Jessica Mecellem co-taught a course (POLS271) on International Law and Justice. The course incorporated class-time at Sewanee and international travel to Croatia, where students participated in the 2018 Cres Summer School on Transitional Justice & Memory Politics. Nine Sewanee students represented the institution in the two-week excursion as they learned about dealing with past violence and seeing justice and reconciliation in a variety of international cases. Students grappled with tough questions while working with international practitioners like those from the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and the Women's Coalition of the Northern Ireland Peace Negotiations. The group also rooted on Croatia all the way to the World Cup final game!
